A retainer is a thin metal wire bonded to the inner (lingual) surface of the teeth after treatment to hold them in the achieved position and prevent relapse. It's placed right after braces removal or completion of aligner treatment. The wire is bonded to each tooth with composite - invisible and unobtrusive. Wearing a retainer is essential: teeth naturally tend to drift back, especially in the first 2-3 years. Care is minimal - hygiene and a check every 6-12 months.
