Treatment of pulpitis of milk teeth

We remove inflammation and preserve the tooth until it naturally changes to a permanent one.

Pulpitis occurs when caries gets inside the tooth. This can cause pain and discomfort in a child. We choose a gentle treatment method to preserve the tooth and its function. We remove the inflamed tissue and then restore the tooth with a filling or crown. The treatment is painless, in a comfortable environment, with sedation or medication sleep if necessary.

When to come

  • Sharp pain in the tooth, especially at night or from cold or hot food.
  • Deep dark cavity in the tooth.
  • Swelling of the gum or fistula near the tooth.
  • The child avoids chewing on one side.
  • After diagnosing deep caries during a routine examination.

What's included

Diagnostics

We examine the tooth, take a targeted picture. We determine the depth of the lesion and the condition of the tissues around the root - this determines the method of treatment.

Anesthesia

We start with an application gel, then use a thin needle and slow injection. If necessary, we use nitrous oxide sedation or medication sleep.

Insulation with cofferdam

We put on a latex handkerchief. A tooth isolated from saliva and oral microflora is a prerequisite for quality treatment.

Removal of inflamed tissue

We remove the affected pulp. The volume depends on the stage: the crown part (pulpotomy) or the entire pulp together with the root part (pulpectomy).

Treatment and filling of canals

We treat the root canals with pastes that dissolve simultaneously with the root of the milk tooth. We do not use permanent filling - it would interfere with natural change.

Tooth restoration

In case of significant decay, we install a crown - metal or ceramic. If the tooth is sufficiently preserved, we fill it with a composite.

How the visit goes

  1. 1Examination and X-ray.
  2. 2Anesthesia is local, with sedation if necessary.
  3. 3Cofferdam insulation.
  4. 4Removal of inflamed pulp.
  5. 5Treatment and filling of canals.
  6. 6Restoration of a tooth with a filling or crown.
  7. 7Closure control.

Why it matters

  • A baby tooth with pulpitis decays further without treatment and infects the germ of a permanent tooth.
  • Premature tooth loss disrupts the formation of the bite.
  • The treatment relieves pain immediately - there is no need to wait for tooth changes.
  • The restored tooth chews fully until it changes naturally.

FAQ

Pulpitis does not disappear on its own. The sooner we start treatment, the more chances we have to save the tooth until it changes naturally.
